A beautiful stranger, seated at the hospital cafe brooding, alone over her coffee.
She had very dark eyes.
Our eyes met as I approached.
(? imagined?)
Perhaps we both recognised something in the other. Perhaps a certain sadness.
I looked away and walked steadily onwards.
(real)
But as I passed, as she began to vanish out the corner of my eye, something made me turn my head and glance at her, only to discover she had turned hers as well. Our eyes met once more.
Walk on by.
Just walk.
*****
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Like my father's come to pass
Seven years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends
Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Ring out the bells again
Like we did when spring began
Wake me up when september ends
Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when september ends
